Traveling in the winter in a snowy climate? Make sure you are prepared for a worst-case scenario. Now if you grew up in a winter wonderland, you might remember putting together shoe box survival kits in elementary school, but if you are traveling north (or it’s just been a long time since you have thought about having some winter essentials in your vehicle) then this is the blog for you! You want to enjoy the fluffy white snow sparkling in the sun after a good snow fall, not feel trapped in it…

Here is our list of items you should have in your vehicle should disaster strike~

1. A small shovel – you can use this to dig out any snow blocked tires.
2. A small box of sand or kitty litter – this will provide traction to tires that might be stuck in snow or slippery ice.
3. Water and non-perishable snacks – in case you are stuck waiting for a tow truck or it takes longer than anticipated to get yourself dug out.
4. Blankets and extra mittens/hats/boots – to layer up! Another handy item that is easy to sneak into a glove compartment are hand warmers. If the heat in your vehicle isn’t functioning properly these items will help keep all the passengers warm.  
5. A first aid kit – because injuries cannot be scheduled to happen at ideal times. Basic medical supplies can tide you over until help arrives.
6. A flashlight and spare batteries – don’t always rely on your telephone as a flashlight. On those nights when there is no moonlight it can be REALLY DARK. You might have several passengers in the car who will want some light as well while you are navigating getting yourself unstuck. Better yet – keep a headlamp handy for hands free use!

No matter the weather forecast it is always good to be prepared. Always make sure to check your tires and antifreeze fluid levels before heading out. Mother Nature often has her own plans for us 🙂
